Guided tour of Ancona – province of Ancona

Provincial capital of the Marche, a city of ancient and noble origins and founded by the ancient Greeks, Ancona rises on a headland which stretches out into the Adriatic Sea. It takes its name from the Greek word ankon (elbow) due to the characteristic geographical formation of the land on which it rises. Ancient maritime city, even today it is one of the most important ports in the Adriatic and offers visitors enchanting little corners and a wealth of churches and sights of great interest.

  • Church of San Domenico, which dominates the famous Piazza del Papa, housing important canvases by Titian and Guercino;
  • Loggia dei Mercanti, symbol of the merchant character of Ancona;
  • Arch of Trajan, symbol of the city built in 115 AD;
  • Teatro delle Muse, distrutto durante la Guerra Mondiale e ricostruito in stile contemporaneo;
  • Mole Vanvitelliana, or the Lazzaretto, of Ancona, grandiose pentagon-shaped military building, it was desigfned by Vanvitelli in the 18th century;
  • A walk to the Cardeto Park with its old Jewish cemetery and to the Passetto, from where you can enjoy a stunning view of the coast.
